On Friday, October 2nd, 2020, the 1st year BA students of the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology participated in a workshop prepared by the researchers team of the ROGER project and CODHUS centre, a workshop that was named #DIGITTworld – Digital Linguistics Workshop.
In the first part of the workshop, dr. Mădălina Chitez, Research Fellow, and assist. dr. Roxana Rogobete presented the ROGER project (Academic genres at the crossroads of tradition and internationalization: Corpus-based interlanguage research on genre use in student writing at Romanian universities) and CODHUS centre (Centre for Corpus Related Digital Approaches to Humanities), which established the foundations of a tradition in the use of digital tools at the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology. Examples of activities carried out in the previous academic year were given, and students were encouraged to apply to CODHUS as interns or volunteers, since the center is a good opportunity both for training and for carrying out their own research.
In the second part of the workshop, assist. univ. dr. Loredana Bercuci and PhD candidate Andreea Dincă carried out, together with the students, a series of practical activities, focused on corpus linguistics, central in the research activity of CODHUS. For example, they were able to observe, with the help of online tools, how the topics of a famous magazine (Vogue) developed in time and some frecquencies of words/ collocations in a certain corpus.
The activity ended with an interactive quiz about the information presented, and students who answered all the questions correctly will be rewarded with prizes.
